If you like to connect quickly with people based in The Hage I suggest you use Twitter and head over to the list of people who work or live in The Hague with a Twitter Account at Tweepml where you can follow the 213 listed tweeps with one click. All in all the total list cannot exceed 250 as set by Tweepml.
Update August 4, 2010
Originally there was a long list of tweeps, people who tweet, sometimes also called tweeple or tweople, here.
I’ve taken the list away, because it was very long and doesn’t necessarily add to the one click connect with many people experience. It also takes a lot of time to load. Therefor I’ve uploaded a click-able image of the list. In addition updating the list is a bit cumbersome as you have to copy and paste html code in a blogpost which is not easy. Now updating the list is a simpler undertaking and that is the next thing to do.
The 6th edition of the The Hague Shoot Me Film Festival is scheduled From 8-17 October, 2010. It’s motto is ʻAnywhere Cinemaʼ. This film festival is dedicated to international independent films in combination with live music at surprising locations throughout The Hague.
The first artists have been confirmed. Among them are the internationally awarded photographer and filmmaker Anton Corbijn (the U2 and other popstar “in house” photographer) and Felixʼs “Machines from London” will have its Dutch première. Also various Polish films and animations with music from Chopin and a cinematographic encounter with the Antilles are planned.
Ticket sale for the Shoot Me Film Festival 2010 starts in mid-August, through their website.
This for instance is a photo I was looking for.
Yesterday Giovanni van Bronkhorst the captain and Bert Van Marwijk the coach of the Dutch Vice World Champion Football team, were knighted by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in the order of Oranje Nassau.
Thank you Angela and Paytah
Argh. It happened again: I pressed the publish button much too early.
I was looking for photos of yesterdays celebration in The Hague of the homecoming of the vice world champions football and the reception in The Hague by the prime minister in the “Cats Huis” which is the Dutch equivalent of the White House in Washington and the knighting of the coach and the captain.
In the process I found this veryy happy photo of proliferate The Hague based photographer Roel Wijnants on Flickr. I gives a good view of what The Hague is also about: A multi cultural city.
Roel took this photo on Queensday on a Turkish Islamitic Cultural party that was organized parallel to Queensday.
Hence the title of the photo: From Turkey with love!
I’ve created Absolutely The Hague | Posterous, because I’ve had already received several positive responses via Twitter. One typical reactions is: “I would like to help you out guys and girls, but I’m not sure I’ve got the time to do so”. For instance by Soenarko who is a typical Posterous blogger.
I’ve been experimenting a bit with Posterous the last year and it is even easier to post something on Posterous than in a WordPress based blog.
Therefor I’m hoping we can tag it along this blog and Absolutely The Hague | Posterous and find a way of having a supporting community that sends stuff to the Posterous account so that we get ideas here to work out. We will see what happens.
I got my idea for this blog from My life in Leeds which is set up by Darren Cronian who is widely known from Travelrants, a blog aiming at the travel consumer, with whom I’ve maintained contacts over the years.
Darren’s city Leeds faces the same sort of problems we have in The Hague:
Like everybody knows London and not many people know Leeds, everybody seems to know Amsterdam while not many people know The Hague…
I was born in The Hague, lived there until I went to university and then lived a long time in several other places in The Netherlands. Luckily I returned to live in The Hague in 1996. In 2002 I started operating Haagsche Suites. In 2004 I started Blogging.
I’m biased, but The Hague is an excellent city to work in, to live in and an excellent city to visit. I just want to tell this to the world out there in the English language. Because:
I cannot do this on my own and am looking around to get as many more people on board to tell the world about our common passion, The Hague. I hope this will become a one stop source of inspiration for fellow and future The Hague lovers. Initially it will be hosted on the WordPress.com platform, but it certainly will be moving to it’s own platform in the future.
I’ve found an excellent backer in Lisa. Lisa is currently on the verge of going on holiday, but you will certainly be hearing from her in the future.
We’ve decided not to plan this venture too much. We’ve only been sparring a bit about a proper name. We hope it catches you!
From there we’ve decided to dive in and to see how it develops as a community project.
What do you think?

As tweets seem to disappear I wanted to keep this for posterity.
Got a hint from Madbello (@Madbello) on how to import a Tweetstatus into a blog, but it doesn’t work on this platform. Anyway, here is the link on media.twitter.com: Blackbird-Pie.
We have been brainstorming about a name and it has become Absolutely The Hague!
Today is the day of the FiFa WorldCup final between Spain and The Orange team of the Netherlands. Before working further on this project I’ll have to watch the match:-)
Unfortunately the Dutch football team lost in the last couple of minutes in the extension from the Spanish team. The Spanish were just a little bit better than the Dutch. It showed in the number of free kicks and yellow cards the Dutch got during the match. It was like watching the Dutch beating Brazil: In that match the Brazilians were the ones getting more and more frustrated, in this final the Dutch showed their frustrations more and more. Our congratulations to Spain.
On an historic note it was curious to see the crown princes of both countries watching this game brotherly seated next to each other in the VIP lounge. Two kingdoms in a world where republics are more en vogue nowadays…
Ah and I found a suitable photo! Our queen Beatrix giving the start sign.
